We are proud to highlight our long-standing partnership with the Prince George's County Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center.

Since 2017, Opportunities, Inc. has had the privilege of volunteering with the shelter and supporting its important mission to care for animals, promote adoption, and serve pet owners throughout the community.

The shelter provides care for dogs, cats, and other animals while helping them find safe, loving homes.

Growing Skills Through Meaningful Work

Our partnership began with simple but meaningful tasks like folding laundry. Over time, responsibilities have grown alongside skills and confidence.

Today, the people we support independently clean and sanitize dishes using a commercial dishwasher, operate washers and dryers from start to finish, assist with unloading trucks, and help organize the animal food pantry. On occasion, they even have the joy of giving dogs a special treat — a small moment that brings big smiles.

These hands-on experiences help build workplace readiness, responsibility, teamwork, and independence while creating opportunities to practice valuable life skills.

Connecting With the Community

Through this partnership, the people we support build meaningful relationships with shelter staff and visitors who come in search of their forever pets — whether a dog, cat, turtles, or even a pig.

Volunteering at the shelter reflects what true community inclusion looks like. The people we support are not just present in the community — they are active contributors. Their work makes a difference, and they are recognized as valued members of the team.
