Introducing Our Service Advisory Council: A New Chapter in Person-Centered Services
We're excited to share that our new Service Advisory Council (SAC) has held its first meeting! 🎉 The Council creates an important opportunity for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who receive services from Opportunities Inc. to help shape the programs and supports that impact their lives.
We believe the people who experience our services every day should have a meaningful voice in how those services are designed, delivered, and improved. Through the Service Advisory Council, members will share feedback, review outcomes, identify barriers, offer recommendations, and help us explore new ways to promote inclusion, independence, and quality of life.
Why This Matters
Person-centered services start with a simple idea: nobody understands our programs better than the people who live and experience them.
The Service Advisory Council puts that idea into practice. It gives members a seat at the table, real influence over real decisions, and a direct line to the people shaping what comes next at Opportunities Inc.
As our COO, Daphni Steffin, shared:
"Elevating the voices of the people we support is essential to who we are and where we're going as an organization. We want to do more than ask for feedback. We want to actively involve people in designing and improving the programs that affect their lives. When we listen, learn, and take action together, we create services that are more meaningful, more person-centered, and better aligned with what people truly want and need."
What Comes Next
The launch of the SAC represents an important step in strengthening self-advocacy, fostering leadership, and building a culture of continuous improvement at Opportunities Inc.
The Council will meet regularly, and we look forward to sharing what we learn, and what changes because of it, right here. Because the best way to design services that work for people is to design them with people.
